2027: Minister Backs Seyi Tinubu as Lagos Governor — “Not Too Young to Lead”
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has declared that Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, is qualified and not too young to become the next Governor of Lagos State.
Speaking during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye, Olawande described Seyi as his leader and mentor, emphasizing the young man’s capacity to lead the state. He highlighted Seyi’s contributions to youth development, even before his father’s presidency, and commended his hands-on approach to supporting young Nigerians.
“He is not too young to become a governor, that’s the truth. Everyone has the potential to achieve their aspirations,” Olawande stated. “Seyi is a well-trained young man who has empowered countless young people, even when his father was not president. He’s actively involved in initiatives that pave the way for others to grow. Unlike others who might retreat to enjoy privileges abroad, he’s here in Nigeria, working hard to make a difference for young people.”
It is worth noting that in November 2024, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) endorsed Seyi Tinubu to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027. However, Olawande clarified that the president’s son has no direct involvement in these campaigns.
“Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” the minister added.
Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy has sparked discussions about the role of youth in Nigerian politics and leadership as the 2027 elections draw closer.
