Empowering Youths: Sanwo-Olu Pushes for Religious Education and Moral Revival
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the critical role of religious education and moral development in shaping young individuals to positively impact society. Speaking on Friday during the 80th Year Remembrance of the Late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi at the Lagos Central Mosque on Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island, the Governor underscored the importance of instilling spiritual and ethical values in children.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that teaching children the essence of religion fosters compassion, empathy, and responsible decision-making. He praised parents and guardians for their efforts in shaping the next generation and noted that events like this serve as opportunities for prayer and reflection.
In his words, “The essence of today is to offer prayers and Sadaqat in honour of the Late Oba Olusi. It is also crucial to train our children to understand the importance of religion and uphold good character wherever they go.”
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Prince Tajudeen Olusi, the leader of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), alongside leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), religious faithful, and Lagos community members.
While reflecting on the legacy of his late father, Prince Tajudeen Olusi expressed gratitude for 80 years of Allah’s faithfulness to the Olusi family. He described the Late Oba Sanusi Matiku Olusi as a selfless leader whose contributions left a lasting impact on the community. He urged attendees to use their time, position, and power wisely to uplift others, emphasizing that “death is inevitable, but what we do during our lifetime defines our legacy.”
APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi described the Late Oba as a visionary leader who instilled strong values in his children and community. He encouraged parents to teach their children the principles of integrity and leadership, noting, “The children we train today will lead the nation tomorrow.”
In his lecture, Sheikh Imam Mujitaba Akewushola Giwa, Alfa Agba of Lagos, called on privileged individuals to extend support to the less fortunate. “Wherever you find yourself, let your actions reflect kindness and goodwill. Remember, life is transient, and the good deeds you do today will define your legacy,” he said.
