Free Medical Care in Lagos: LG Boss Introduces Cataract Surgeries and Health Screenings
The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Lagos, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, launched a 2-day mega medical mission on Thursday, offering free cataract surgeries, medical screenings, and medications to residents in the district.
During the event, over 1000 residents were screened and treated for a range of conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, dental issues, and vision problems. In addition to the cataract surgeries, beneficiaries received free eyeglasses, dental care, and tooth extractions.
Hon. Apatira, represented by his Deputy Hon. Yetunde Jimba, emphasized the importance of periodic health check-ups, encouraging residents to prioritize their well-being. He shared, “This is part of our administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure quality living for residents in the Itire-Ikate LCDA.”
New cases of diabetes, hypertension, and other health conditions were discovered during the screenings. The medical team provided free medications and treatment for these conditions, breaking down financial barriers to healthcare access. This intervention also included cataract screenings and surgeries, addressing vision challenges and potentially preventing blindness, especially among elderly residents.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, thanking the council for offering such impactful services. Apatira reiterated the council’s commitment to delivering life-changing projects that improve the overall health and well-being of the community.
