Gov Sanwo-Olu advocates joint effort to boost Nigeria’s industries.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the need for strong collaboration between state and federal governments to strengthen Nigeria’s industries and drive economic growth.
Speaking on Friday through his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the critical role of industries in shaping a nation’s economy. He made this call while receiving the Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh, at the Deputy Governor’s Official Residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, a unified government approach is essential for creating an environment conducive to industrial development, ensuring that businesses thrive instead of relocating due to lack of government support.
“As a government, we must work together to create an enabling environment for industries and stop the trend of companies relocating due to challenges that could be addressed through proactive intervention,” he stated.
The Governor cited the example of Unilever’s recent exit, stressing that businesses need government engagement to stay competitive. He urged a new approach in how authorities interact with the private sector, ensuring that policies align with industry needs.
Proactive Measures to Support Businesses
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured that his administration is actively addressing business challenges through the “BOS Meet Business” initiative, a program designed to identify and resolve industry concerns. However, he acknowledged that some issues require collaboration with federal agencies for long-term solutions.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing a dedicated Ministry to interface with industries, ensuring that businesses receive the support they need to thrive and contribute to economic prosperity.
Federal Government’s Commitment to Industrial Growth
Earlier in his address, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Sen. John Enoh, revealed that his team was in Lagos for an Industrial Tour to gain firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by industries.
He emphasized that understanding these challenges would enable the government to develop effective policies to foster business growth and investment opportunities.
“By taking a proactive approach, the government can create a more favorable business environment, driving economic development for the nation,” he said.
Sen. Enoh also praised the Lagos State government for its efforts in creating an investor-friendly business environment, assuring that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting industries for the overall betterment of Nigeria’s economy.
