Lagos APC Clarifies Position on Obasa’s Impeachment by State Assembly
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has addressed the recent impeachment of the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, emphasizing that the decision was solely the prerogative of the legislative arm.
Speaking on behalf of the party, APC spokesperson Hon. Seye Oladejo clarified that the impeachment process was carried out independently by the House of Assembly without interference from the party or its executive leadership.
Obasa was officially removed from his position on Monday, with Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda elected as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Commenting on the development, Oladejo stated:
“His impeachment is not a party affair; it’s entirely the business of the House of Assembly. They operate independently as one of the three tiers of government. We respect their autonomy and accept the decision they have made public.”
Oladejo also highlighted the dynamic nature of politics, saying:
“Politics revolves around interests and intrigues. The only constant is a politician’s interest at any given time, which is universal and not unique to Nigeria.”
The APC spokesman reaffirmed the party’s dedication to good governance and delivering on its electoral promises to the people of Lagos State. He reiterated that the APC remains committed to fostering progress and stability in the state.
