A day after her election, the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, paid a visit to the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday to seek their blessings and support.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting at Lagos House, Marina, Meranda explained that the visit was to brief the council on recent developments in the Assembly and to secure their endorsement. “We briefed the GAC about what happened at the State House of Assembly yesterday (Monday) and sought their blessings, which we have received,” she said.

The GAC, established by President Bola Tinubu, serves as the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State. The meeting, attended by key principal officers of the Assembly, was held behind closed doors and led by GAC Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi.

Notably, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was absent from the meeting, as he had departed Nigeria on Monday night for an official engagement.

The visit followed the dramatic impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed during an emergency plenary session on Monday over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. Obasa, currently abroad, was replaced by Meranda in an immediate election.

Additionally, the House Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, was removed, and all standing committees of the Assembly were dissolved as part of the sweeping changes in leadership.
