Lagos Begins Stakeholder Talks on Purple Line Rail Development
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has commenced stakeholder engagement meetings for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Purple Line project, marking a significant step toward expanding the city’s transportation network.
The update was shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday by Jubril Gawat, spokesperson for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to Gawat, the stakeholder meetings serve as a precursor to scoping activities for the ambitious 57km rail line, which will extend from Redemption Camp in Ogun State to the Volkswagen area along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Purple Line: Key Features & Integration
The Purple Line is set to feature 17 stations and will seamlessly integrate with existing rail networks:
This integration aims to create a comprehensive, interconnected public transportation system, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion in Lagos.
As part of the stakeholder engagement, a LAMATA team visited Ikeja, Agege, and Ojodu Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to initiate discussions with local stakeholders, ensuring community participation in the project’s development.
