The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group for the construction of the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe International Airport.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who signed the agreement, announced the development in a statement on Saturday, February 8.

A Key Project for Connectivity and Economic Growth

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the new airport is a crucial part of his administration’s vision to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and attract global investments.

“We have signed an MoU with the internationally renowned Summa Group to develop and construct the Lekki-Epe International Airport. This transformative project will boost Lagos’ global standing, improve travel efficiency, and create new economic opportunities,” he stated.

The Lekki-Epe International Airport is expected to ease congestion at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while fostering trade, tourism, and business expansion in the state.

Federal Government’s Approval and Project Timeline

In October 2022, the Federal Government approved the airport’s construction, with former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, officially presenting the approval document to Governor Sanwo-Olu during the 2022 Lagos Economic Summit at Eko Hotel and Suites.

Once completed, the Lekki-Epe International Airport will serve as a strategic hub, complementing Murtala Muhammed International Airport and supporting Lagos’ long-term infrastructure development goals.
