Lagos Moves to Prosecute 74 Residents for Environmental Violations
The Lagos State Government has announced the impending prosecution of 74 individuals arrested for violating environmental laws during a coordinated enforcement operation in the Lekki area.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the arrests were made by the state’s Taskforce around 1 a.m. on Tuesday during a strategic sweep of key locations on Lagos Island.
Targeted areas included Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Lekki Phases 1 and 2, and the 1004 Estate. Of the 74 suspects, 72 are men and two are women.
Wahab said the operation was part of efforts to restore environmental order and cleanliness across Lagos. He emphasized that the violators would be prosecuted in accordance with state environmental laws.
“The goal is to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for all Lagosians. We urge residents to support these efforts by remaining law-abiding,” Wahab stated.
