The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has arrested 12 suspected land grabbers accused of terrorizing residents and business owners along NERDC Road in Ikeja.

Confirming the arrests, CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the agency, stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence provided by members of the public. The agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, released the statement on Thursday.

Intelligence-Led Operation Against Land Grabbers

Akerele revealed that the suspects had been obstructing lawful occupants from conducting their legitimate activities and were involved in the assault of a resident, identified as Mr. Ashafa of Prestige Hotel, Ikeja. Reports further indicated that the suspects arrived at the scene armed with dangerous weapons.

He reiterated that preventing and eradicating land grabbing activities remains a core mandate of the Lagos Taskforce.

“If left unchecked, these unlawful activities could disrupt development projects and deprive Lagos residents of their hard-earned properties,” Akerele stated.

Legal Action and Warning to Perpetrators

Following their arrest, the suspects were charged to court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Akerele warned individuals still engaging in land grabbing to desist immediately or face legal consequences. He assured residents that the Lagos State Taskforce remains committed to maintaining law and order and will not tolerate intimidation, violence, or illegal land acquisition.

He further urged Lagosians to report any suspicious activities related to land grabbing to the appropriate authorities for swift action.
