FULL LIST: Lagos Accounts for Majority Share of VAT Pool with N2.75trn in 2024
In 2024, Lagos State emerged as the top contributor to Nigeria’s Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue, generating an impressive N2.75 trillion. This contribution accounts for 54% of the total non-import VAT pool, according to a comprehensive report by Agora Policy, a leading Nigerian think tank.
Rivers State followed as the second-highest contributor with N832.69 billion, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ranked third, generating N303.64 billion. Oyo State and Kano State rounded out the top five contributors, with N272.41 billion and N77.76 billion, respectively.
The report also highlights that 33 other Nigerian states collectively contributed only 19% of the total VAT pool. Contributions ranged from Delta State’s N73.39 billion to Imo State’s N4.38 billion.
