LASU Alumnus Awards Business Grants to 30 Students
Peter Abisoye, a prominent alumnus of Lagos State University (LASU), has launched the ‘Tips With Polan Business Grant’ project, disbursing N1.5 million in grants to 30 students. The initiative, designed to empower young entrepreneurs, was unveiled during an event at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre on the Ojo Main Campus of LASU. The event drew over 500 students from various higher institutions across Lagos, each eager to showcase their innovative business ideas.
Out of the 500 students who applied, only 30 were selected after a rigorous screening process. The grant aims to enhance student productivity, foster self-reliance, and support small businesses in fields such as fashion, hairdressing, information technology, food services, bakery, soap production, and agriculture. Each successful candidate will receive mentorship to develop their business skills and ensure long-term success in their chosen ventures.
Abisoye shared the vision behind the grant, stating, “This initiative is designed to encourage undergraduate students with a business mindset, offering them mentorship and resources to become self-reliant and build their capacities.” He emphasized that the grant is a non-repayable investment in the students’ future, with the key criteria being the ability to manage and grow their business ideas.
Further explaining the importance of the grant, Abisoye highlighted his organization’s focus on entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and mentorship to equip students with the tools needed to compete internationally. He also revealed plans to collaborate with banks and private sector partners to expand the initiative’s reach.
Looking to the future, Abisoye intends to extend this program nationwide, aiming to support undergraduates across Nigeria in their entrepreneurial journeys. Many of the grant recipients expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, assuring that the funds would be used effectively to grow their businesses and contribute to the entrepreneurial landscape.
