Meranda Makes History as Lagos Assembly’s First Female Speaker
The Lagos State House of Assembly has made history by swearing in Mojisola Meranda as its first female Speaker.
Meranda assumed the role following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa during a plenary session on Monday. Representing the Apapa 1 State Constituency, Meranda pledged to uphold the responsibilities of her new office with integrity and dedication.
In her oath of office, she stated: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The historic appointment marks a significant milestone for gender representation in Nigerian politics, particularly in Lagos State.
