An unidentified officer from the Lagos State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was reportedly injured after being shot by a security personnel, allegedly dressed in police attire. The incident occurred during an enforcement operation targeting counterfeit number plates, part of the FRSC’s broader initiative under the Lagos Sector Command.

According to Channels Television, the Corps Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, who was overseeing the operation, did not provide further details at the time of reporting. However, he urged the public to exercise patience as investigations into the incident continue. It remains unclear whether the security personnel involved is affiliated with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and, as of the latest report, no official statements have been released by the Lagos police authorities.

In another troubling development, the mysterious death of Inspector Yusuf Suleiman Blessing, a 50-year-old police officer serving in the Irele Council Area of Ondo State, has sparked controversy. Family members are rejecting claims that he drowned, following the discovery of his charred remains.

Reports suggest that the officer went missing for over 24 hours, before his burned body was found under suspicious circumstances. Initially, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) informed the family that the inspector had drowned, but conflicting reports from colleagues raised questions about this version of events.

A family source revealed to Vanguard that when police officers attempted to deliver the body in a sealed coffin for burial, the family insisted on seeing it first. The officers, sensing resistance, fled the scene, abandoning both the coffin and their vehicle. When the family opened the coffin, they were shocked to find that the inspector’s body had been burned and his skull fractured, casting doubt on the drowning claim.

Funmi Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed that an investigation has begun to uncover the true circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
