Political Storm: Lagos Lawmakers Dismiss Allegations Against Remi Tinubu
The Lagos State House of Assembly has strongly denied online reports alleging that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is responsible for the ongoing crisis within the Assembly.
In a statement signed by Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, the lawmakers dismissed the claims as baseless and misleading.
“The attention of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been drawn to a false report circulating online, suggesting that the internal affairs of the House are being influenced by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. We categorically dissociate all members from this claim, as it is entirely unfounded and lacks any truth,” the statement read.
The lawmakers emphasized that they hold Senator Tinubu in the highest regard, recognizing her significant contributions as a former First Lady of Lagos State and now the First Lady of Nigeria.
“It is unthinkable that any member of this Assembly would accuse her of interfering in legislative matters. The First Lady has no role in our internal proceedings, and any attempt to link her to these issues is a deliberate act of misinformation,” the statement added.
The lawmakers also urged journalists and media outlets to uphold ethical reporting standards by verifying facts before publication.
“We call on members of the press to practice responsible journalism by ensuring accuracy and fairness in their reports. Misinformation only serves to mislead the public and create unnecessary tensions.”
The Lagos State House of Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, legislative independence, and public service.
