Sanwo-Olu Calls for Transparency as New LASIEC Board Takes Oath

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on the newly appointed board members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to leverage innovative technologies to foster development. Sanwo-Olu delivered this message during the swearing-in ceremony of the six new board members on Friday at Lagos House, Ikeja. Three permanent secretaries were also sworn in at the event.

The governor urged the new LASIEC board, led by retired Justice Bola Ighile, to prioritize transparency and innovation while upholding the values of democracy. He emphasized the importance of conducting free and fair council elections, stating, “I charge you to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. You are the new role models for public service, and your conduct must reflect the values of integrity and transparency.”

Sanwo-Olu also stressed the need for accountability in the board’s actions, stating, “Accountability must be at the core of your work, as it is the minimum that Lagos State demands of you.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the other newly appointed members of the LASIEC board include Mr. Samson Ajibade (Secretary), Mr. Akeem Durojaye, Mr. Olumide Metileku, Mr. Habeeb Ayileru, and Mr. Oladele Adekanye.

In addition, the governor urged the newly appointed permanent secretaries to be innovative in driving the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda. He emphasized that they should focus on brainstorming creative solutions that will propel the state towards greater success, stating, “We need you to come up with programs that will drive innovation and help the people of Lagos thrive in all aspects.”

The new permanent secretaries include Mr. AbdulRafiu Fashola, who will oversee the LASIEC office, Mrs. Kafayat Sarumi, who will head the Office of Sustainable Development Goals, and Abdul-Rasheed Muri-Okunola, who will manage the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency.
