Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for initiatives that drive innovation, excellence, and sustainability across all sectors, with a strong focus on engineering and infrastructure development.

Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu made this commitment at the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Lagos Regional Engineering Stakeholders Summit, themed “Restructuring and Reforms”, held in Lagos.

He emphasized that fostering a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive Lagos hinges on empowering engineers through capacity-building programs, public-private partnerships, and technology-driven solutions to tackle urbanization and climate challenges.

“Our administration is dedicated to creating an enabling environment where engineers can thrive. We recognize that the success of infrastructure projects and industrial growth depends on the competence and integrity of our engineers,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu urged engineers to embrace COREN’s regulatory reforms, highlighting their pivotal role in nation-building, industrialization, and economic growth. He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to collaborating with COREN and industry stakeholders to uphold global engineering standards.

COREN President, Engr. Sadiq Abubakar, also underscored the council’s dedication to engineering excellence, regulatory efficiency, and national development, driven by a strategic roadmap. He noted that COREN is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring under the Engineers Registration Act (as amended) 2018 to enhance engineering education, training, and ethical practices.

Additionally, COREN has empowered the Regional Steering Committees (RSCs) to ensure effective enforcement and compliance at regional levels, further strengthening regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s engineering sector.

Engr. Ibikunle Ogunbayo, Chairman of the Lagos Regional Steering Committee (LRSC), stated that the summit aimed to educate engineering professionals on COREN’s expanded regulatory framework. He highlighted that the new RSC structure is designed to decentralize regulatory activities, fostering closer relationships between COREN and engineering personnel nationwide.

With these advancements, Lagos State continues to position itself as a hub for engineering excellence, technological innovation, and infrastructure transformation, aligning with global best practices for sustainable development.
