Tragic Multi-Vehicle Collision in Lagos: One Dead, Three Hurt
A yet-to-be-identified man has lost his life, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident near Otedola Bridge in Lagos. The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the fatality on Tuesday. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, two of the injured victims were rushed to the hospital immediately. He explained that the multiple-vehicle crash occurred during the ongoing recovery of a fallen 40-foot container. He said:
“In an overnight operation to safely recover a fallen 40-foot container for onward transmission to the LASTMA office in Oshodi, a multiple-vehicle accident occurred near the same axis on Otedola Bridge. “Upon arriving at the scene of the secondary incident, it was discovered that four articulated trucks, each carrying containers, were involved in a collision. Investigations revealed that reckless driving caused the accident, leading to a forceful impact that left the trucks stuck together. “One adult male, extricated from beneath the first accident truck, unfortunately lost his life in the incident.” He added that three other adult males suffered varying degrees of injuries. “Two seriously injured victims received on-the-spot medical attention at the scene before being transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre,” he said.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu assured the public that all necessary safety measures were implemented to prevent further incidents at the scene.
“The rescued accident victims received immediate medical care and were taken to the hospital. “The recovered body was properly bagged and handed over to officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps for further action. “All affected trucks were successfully cleared from the road to a layby, and the road has been reopened for safe vehicular movement.”
