Transforming Communities: Inside the Leadership of Igando-Ikotun LCDA
The Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State is witnessing a wave of transformation under the stewardship of its current leadership, focused on grassroots empowerment, infrastructural revitalization, and inclusive governance.
Carved out of Alimosho Local Government Area in 2003, the Igando-Ikotun LCDA comprises vibrant communities such as Igando, Ikotun, Egan, Abaranje, and others. It remains one of the most populous and dynamic subdivisions in Lagos, playing a key role in the socio-economic landscape of the state. Igando is strategically located with key road links connecting it to other parts of Lagos. It is bordered to the north by Ayobo/Ipaja LGA, to the south by Amuwo-Odofin LGA, to the east by Isheri-Osun, and to the west by Iyana-Oba . The community is well-served by major roads, facilitating easy access to neighboring areas. he local economy of Igando thrives on various sectors, including agriculture, trade, and services. The area hosts the Igando Market, a bustling center for the exchange of goods and services . Additionally, the Alimosho General Hospital is located along the Igando Road, providing essential healthcare services to residents .
The Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Senior Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, has prioritized citizen engagement and infrastructural development as pillars of his administration. At a recent stakeholders’ forum held in April 2025, the council unveiled a participatory budgeting process for the 2025 fiscal year. Community members, civil society groups, and local leaders were invited to contribute directly to planning and decision-making—marking a new chapter in transparent governance.

A retired civil servant who rose to the position of Clerk of the Legislative Council, Akinsanya also served as a two-term President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Lagos State. His extensive experience in local governance has been instrumental in driving the LCDA’s progress.
