The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has awarded Ph.D degrees to 213 graduands from its School of Postgraduate Studies during the university’s 55th convocation ceremony. The event, held at the institution’s Sports Centre, marked a historic achievement, with the highest number of Ph.D recipients in UNILAG’s history.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi, expressed pride in the milestone. He shared, “This year’s convocation sets a record. Last year, we had 155 Ph.D graduates. This year, we graduated 213 Ph.D holders, the highest number ever in the history of the university. We are very proud of this accomplishment.”

Professor Osinubi encouraged the new graduates to strive for excellence in their respective fields, emphasizing their potential to contribute to societal development. He proudly stated, “This is the foremost postgraduate school in West Africa, and we are confident our graduates will excel in various fields. We have equipped them with the knowledge and skills needed to make a global impact.”

The Dean also highlighted the university’s new ultramodern postgraduate building, funded by a generous donor. “The new building is energy-efficient, independent of the national grid, and offers state-of-the-art facilities for our postgraduate students,” Osinubi added.

One of the distinguished Ph.D graduates, Dr. Ademola Olajire, from the Department of Mass Communication and the Director of Media and Communication at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), shared his gratitude. “It was a challenging six-year journey, but I am grateful to God, my office mentors, and my family. Traveling from Abuja to Lagos for weeks wasn’t easy, but it was all worth it for this moment of success,” Dr. Olajire expressed.
