As Nigerians gear up for the 2027 general elections, the Southern Youth Movement (SYM), a prominent youth group, has called on Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to run for Lagos State Governor.

In a statement signed by High Chief Promise Lawuru, the National President of SYM, the group emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution does not prohibit the President’s son from contesting the governorship seat. The group outlined 101 reasons why Seyi Tinubu is the ideal candidate for Lagos State, underscoring his qualifications and leadership qualities.

“We, the Southern Youth Movement, urge Engr. Seyi Tinubu to contest the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State,” the statement reads. Seyi Tinubu is fully qualified to be governor in all aspects, including age and constitutional requirements. Most importantly, he is a proud Lagosian, which makes him the right choice to lead the state.”

The Southern Youth Movement, committed to empowering young people in governance, noted that this initiative will start with Lagos State, with plans to encourage youth participation in leadership across the southern states of Nigeria. “We aim to ensure that the youth take over governance in the southern states, starting with Lagos,” the statement continued.

The group highlighted Seyi Tinubu’s work ethic, digital expertise, and vision for expanding Lagos as key factors in his suitability for the role. “In today’s digital age, Lagos needs a governor who understands and drives digital transformation. Seyi Tinubu is that person. His leadership will bring expansion and innovation to Lagos State,” the statement emphasized.

“We appeal to all Lagosians to see Seyi beyond being the ‘President’s son’. Seyi Tinubu has built his own identity and earned respect through his actions, particularly in his charity work and efforts to support youth involvement in governance.”

The SYM also expressed confidence in Seyi Tinubu’s ability to address key challenges facing Lagosians, including poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. The group reiterated that “the Nigerian Constitution does not prevent Seyi from running, and we believe his leadership will bring positive change to Lagos.”

“Seyi has demonstrated a commitment to youth engagement in governance, as seen in the appointment of young ministers and officials in the current administration. Nigerians, especially the youth, need fresh leadership for the future. SYM is committed to supporting qualified youth candidates in 2027 elections, beginning with Lagos,” the statement concluded.

The group assured that their goal is not to replace elders, but to work collaboratively with them for the advancement of the nation. “Our elders are here to advise, and it’s time for the youth to take the lead in governance,” the Southern Youth Movement stated.
